Knitting and Nerdfighteria

This morning, I finished the second of two knitted beanies. They're from a new pattern and are actually rounded on top instead of having the ear thingies. I'm planning on putting them up in the store pretty soon. I also bought a book of crochet hat patterns, so I plan on making a few of those up to sell as well. I just really like hats, so I figure other people must like them also. And I hope that people buy EVERYTHING I have when Christmas time comes around. I'm building up quite a stock since no one is buying anything right now.

When I was on Facebook yesterday, I saw a post in the Nerdfighteria facebook page about people maybe working together to do a vlogbrothers style channel. I mean, I've seen it done before, and this would be so that everyone blogs once a week, but I really want to do it. No one has replied to my comment of actually wanting to do this though. Idk. Its still early in the day, so maybe the team vloggery could still happen.

I've been thinking about how I really need to get back into writing, so today it is my goal to type up the first rough draft of the second Orio the hamster book. I figure that a book per summer would be a pretty good deal. I also really need to send my first book off to the publisher for consideration. I'm almost scared to. I fear judgement. But I have like three book ideas  in my head, so I need to get to writing.

It is finally Friday, which seemed to take forever to get here this week. I feel significantly better emotionally than I have at any other point this week. My mom and dad aren't mad at me anymore. I'm still confused on the topic of boys, but that isn't likely to go away any time soon, so I'm just kinda ignoring it.

So, I'm not sure if I told you about the boy situation, but here we go.

Last weekend, Andrew was at Comicpalooza, which meant minimal communication for about four days. And apparently I've become spoiled to communicating with at least one person for most of the day. During the time he was gone, I spent quite a bit of time on Facebook, and I befriended a guy in the Nerdfighteria group, Matthew. And we started snapchatting. And now I'm kinda split between two people. They're both fantastic.

Andrew:
  • Freaking adorable
  • lives not too far away
  • similar mindset to me
  • known since HS, talking for almost a year
  • in a non-committed relationship, kinda
  • depressed, but wants to get better
  • no real job, plans to go to trade school
  • not a nerdfighter, really
Matthew:
  • Freaking adorable
  • Lives far away, but plans to move to US
  • British (with the accent and everything)
  • has fallen head-over-heels
  • nerdfighter
  • in college, plans to work at NASA!!!
  • is a lifeguard
  • parents approve
  • just started talking to him on like Saturday
  • likes TFIOS!!!!!
Its such a difficult thing. I'm kinda playing it by ear for now.

Lizzie learns to cook, part 1

I spent a lot of time knitting this week. I'm also working on listening to the audio book of tfios. Ive also been really sad the last couple days. I guess depressed would be a better word, but I dont have depression. I know people with depression and I am not depressed.

Yesterday, I went out to eat chinese food with my grandparents. Then we went to Joann's (a craft store) and I ended up buying two books. One was a bunch of crochet hat patterns and the other was the unofficial Harry Potter cookbook. Ive been wanting the cookbook for a long time. Which is strange, since I suck at cooking.

Ive decided to start learning to cook though. Mainly using this cookbook. I'm starting with the easy recipes.  This morning I made English Farmhouse Scrambled Eggs and Bacon. Basically, scrambles eggs with chopped up bacon and cheese on top. I made half the recipe instead of all of it, and it was plenty. I really dont eat much, so one egg and a slice of bacon was enough. It was really good. It looked unappetizing, but i will definitely make it again.

Im not sure what I will make next, but I'm hoping its as much of a success as this was.

Recent Events

I know, I've been terrible about blogging. I wake up on tuesdays thinking that I'll blog, but then I haven't read a book to review and I don't even get on the computer that often. I don't like blogging from my kindle and my phone, but I may start doing it more often. I actually had a reason to get on the computer this morning, but I'll get to that later.

The princess thing on Saturday went pretty well. I mean, I got wrangled into being a judge for a karaoke contest, so I only got to be two princesses (Snow White and Merida) and I was followed around by a 13 year old boy the whole time, but it was money in my pocket and a good advertising chance. I handed out a bunch of business cards. I also got a request to do Elsa from frozen, so I've been looking around for the cheapest way to get that costume. So far, I'm either doing an old prom or wedding dress with a homemade cape or a $100 from amazon.com. I don't really like buying clothes from Amazon though, because I don't like having to return things and sizing charts aren't always right. I'm definitely not making the dress by hand though. Learned that lesson already.

Comicpalooza is this weekend. I really wanted to go, and I have a lot of friends/acquaintances that are going, but I can't go. I have a hair appointment on Saturday (YAY!) so being out that day or Friday would be out of the question. Then I have church on Sunday and I have no way to be there on Monday. I guess I'll go next year. I haven't given up hope on Oni-Con in Galveston later this year though.

I'm starting up a new youtube channel today. I have all of these videos of my brother's band concerts and stuff, and I know that he'll be playing instruments of some kind for all of eternity, so I'll have plenty to film in the future. I want to put them up on there so they don't just sit on my computer forever. It would make it easier for friends and relatives to see them and James can go back and evaluate his performances. I think I'm going to call it "MyBrotherTheMusician" or something like that. Its part of the reason I'm on the computer today.

The other reason is to print out the shipping slip for the textbook that I have yet to return. Blah. But at least the semester is over!

I went book shopping yesterday. I know, I shouldn't have. But I only got three books. It could have been more, because I went to half price books. I'll be reviewing them soon enough.

Snow White and the Princesses

I just printed out 100 business cards for my hire-a-princess thing. Why? Because I have a princess gig tomorrow! I'm going to be there pretty much all day, unlike what I would do when I'm in Old Town Spring. This is in the place that used to be Cypress Lakes for a thing called Hug a Tree, Kiss a Fish. There's supposed to be a lot of people there. And I'm going to do all three princesses. First Merida, then Snow White and then Ariel.

My mom is sitting across the table from me, working on my new Snow White dress. Its going to look awesome. The only problem is that we have to finish it tonight and its only about half way sewed. This should be interesting. Its probably going to take until late tonight. What fun.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. I mean, I know that I'll be handing out business cards, taking pictures with kids, and playing my ukuleles, but I'm not sure where in the place or if I'll be charging for the pictures or where I will be able to change costumes or anything. I guess I'll have to figure that out when I get there tomorrow morning. This should get me some more summer gigs and facebook likes. I'm going to need money because I'll be driving soon and I'll be actually going to college next semester.

I feel like this summer is going to fly by. I mean, there's still like three weeks until everyone else gets out of school, but whatever. Summer is now for me. I need to get my license, make some money, maybe get a job, make a new journal, and whatnot. I also want to go to the beach. And I want to see Andrew.

Talk to you guys next week. Probably on Tuesday.

Hibiscus, Pocky, and THE FINAL FINAL

Yesterday, my mother and I went to the college that I take courses through and dropped off two of the books that I rented this semester. Then we went to Hobby Lobby and bought fabric for my Snow White dress (I'll explain the down side to that in a minute). After that, we went to Kroger, which is a store I really haven't been to in a long time. It was like the candy store of grocery stores.

This wasn't just a normal Kroger, it was a Kroger Marketplace. So it was huge. There was even a part that sold furniture and decor. I ended up getting two treats: a package of Pocky, and a new kind of tea. For those who don't know, Pocky is an Asian candy that is basically cookie/biscuit sticks dipped in dark chocolate. They're one of my favourite candies. And I don't really like dark chocolate. They come in other flavours, but most stores around here only carry chocolate and strawberry flavours, and I like the chocolate more than the strawberry. The new kind of tea was Hibiscus tea. I've never had any before now, but my dad has and he said it was good. So, I bought it.

I made myself a cup of hot hibiscus tea this morning, and after trying it, decided that it would probably be served best cold, so I put it in the fridge and I'm going to drink it with my lunch. Its almost  sweet and sour at the same time. Its weird. But good. At the moment, I'm enjoying one of the many diet foods that my mother bought, a special k protein shake in chocolate mocha flavour. Its good, but I'm afraid to drink all of it too fast. Its supposed to keep you full longer, so I thought it would be a good breakfast. The taste and consistency reminds me of the "just add water" milkshakes that came in the MREs we got during the last hurricane. I remember that the chocolate ones were pretty good, but the strawberry ones were horrible. Maybe I'll jump back on here and talk about my hurricane stories tomorrow or later today...

Now, about the Snow White dress. It was the idea of my grandma and great aunt betty to make a new dress instead of buying it piece by piece like I had planned. If I had bought it, it would have cost me about $20 for the skirt, $15 for the shirt, and I already had the corset. But noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. They just HAD to make it, because it would be better that way. My mother and I bought almost $150 worth of materials yesterday. For that, we could have bought a premade costume, and not one of the cheapie ones either. We're talking a really nice one.
I'm not really happy about the situation. And because I need the dress by weekend after this one, I get to spend this weekend with my mom, grandma, and great aunt making it. Blech. And I won't be helping much, since I can't really sew that well, nor can I cut out pieces very well. I hope this is worth all of the trouble, but it probably won't be.

I have a music final to go take today. Well, not go take, exactly, I'm taking it from my computer. This is going to take forever. But I'm pretty sure that I'll be done with this semester after this.

Not Quite Done

I thought I was done with everything for this semester, but it turns out that I'm not yet. I have my final exam for music class to do. Its due on friday, and I could do it today, but I don't want to. I'll look over my papers today and take it tomorrow. Blech.

I finished the series Princess Jellyfish in one day. I really wish I had a dress like the first jellyfish one that they make on the show. Its ridiculous. I've become the average college kid. I watch too much netflix. Because I haven't found another series to watch yet, I'm watching The Breakfast Club this morning. I don't know why I haven't watched it before now.

My mom and I are going to go return the textbooks that I rented today. What fun.

I really don't have anything to talk about.

Oh, I posted a new video to youtube yesterday. Its pretty cool in my opinion.

#REVIEWSDAYTUESDAY - The Alchemist

I finished Madoka Magica last night. I didn't realize that there were only 12 episodes. Oh well. It was still a good show. It was very dramatic and stuff,  but still good.

This week's book review is of "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coulho. I think I spelled that right. So, here we go.

I read this book after my brother did. My brother has a pretty good taste in books, but his taste is very specific and he doesn't read just anything. For this reason, he doesn't read many books. This one was assigned to him in English class. He read it and said that he loved it. Which is a really rare thing. So, naturally, I had to read it asap.

This book is about 150 pages or so, not very long. It took me a couple days to read it, mainly because I was busy with homework, but even the chances I took to work on reading it, I could hardly put it down. There were so many good ideas and fantastic quotes crammed into that little book. It was definitely worth reading.

"The Alchemist" tells the tale of a boy who goes out to find a treasure that he dreamed about that is somewhere near the pyramids. He goes on this whole crazy, ridiculous journey to find it. Along the way, he ends up learning about his "personal legend"and trying to fulfill it. I really don't want to spoil the book, so I'll just tell you that its really great.

"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

I'd say that that quote is probably my favourite. Its so hopeful and inspiring. I think I might put it up on my wall.

This book is very much for the high school and middle school crowd. The kids who are still trying to figure out who  they are and what to do with their life. I would say that its appropriate for any age group, but it would influence those the most.

Because I don't really care for it as much as, say, John Green books or something like this, I would give this 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe if I was a freshman in high school my opinion would be different.

Modoka Magica

I started watching a new anime series on Netflix. Modoka Magica. I thought it was going to be a happy, fun little show about 8th grade girls that fight ridiculous monsters. But instead its really dramatic and serious. Its crazy. I like it anyway though. The animation is really strange and colorful.

I wrote my summer reading list yesterday, AKA I wrote a list of all of the books I need to read before buying more. There are a total of like 28. I hope to finish most of them before summer ends. That way I can buy more books without feeling bad about it. This will also give me stuff to talk about on Tuesdays for reviews.

I have two tests to take today. I'm not sure if they're exams or not. I'm not really sure when some of my exams are. They have to be like this week, but I don't see them on the online calendar, so I'm kinda confused. I should probably get on them pretty soon.

I've kinda been lazy this morning. I watched anime and had coffee and made breakfast. I really don't want to take two tests in a row. I probably should have studied. Blah.

Waffles, Anime, and an essay...

I started off my morning watching (or rather, re-watching) Ouran High School Host Club, one of my favourite anime series ever! Its borderline shojo, but only because it makes fun of shojo. More of a romantic comedy type thing, I guess. Its hilarious and cute at the same time.

I also made waffles. Well, I cooked and ate waffles. My grandma on my dad's side sent waffle batter over. She has the best waffle recipe ever. But I'm not a huge fan of waffles. Or breakfast.

I posted two videos on my youtube channel yesterday, which is awesome. I uploaded one directly from my phone and the other I actually edited and uploaded from my computer. It only took about 40 minutes to upload this time, which is abnormally quick. Because of this, I'm now in a video making mood. I don't know for sure, but I may start vlogging more often. I enjoy it, I just need to find more interesting things to talk about. I also feel like making a music video or montage. I just haven't found a good song/video idea yet. I do know that video production will pick up when summer arrives, AKA the end of next week.

On days that it is warm enough outside, I put Puddin outside in a circular pen with food and water and toys and stuff. Normally she's okay with this. Today, she's barking like crazy for no reason. Blech.

I need to go write my research paper.
